Olivier Theyskens – The Latest Genius behind Nina Ricci
The house of Ricci was built by Nina Ricci and her son Robert in 1932 and business literally exploded when the refined, feminine, and romantic look of Maria “Nina” Ricci put her own tastes into the clothes she made. Her son is the Einstein behind L’Air Du Temps fragrance – the ultimate post war perfume — which continues to sell off the shelves today.
Eventually the Ricci name caught on so strong that even Andy Warhol was commissioned to design its window displays. Today, the label is as strong as every with worldwide fame and is seen on the likes of Helen Lee, Lauren Dupont, Alexis Bryan, and Renee Zelwegger. Even though the line has changed hands a few times since, it is as famous today for what made it a household name in 1932 – Airy romance with layers upon layers of chiffon and just the right amount of jewels in all the right places. Olivier Theyskins, who was born January 4, 1977 in Brussels (Belgium), was recently celebrated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the new talent behind the Ricci label.
Madonna herself claims Theyskins to be one of the true artists of the fashion industry and describes his clothes as unique inventions. Theyskins look comes in form fitting jeans and loose tops, meant for the young sexy woman. He wants his look to be universal, something that would fit in from New York to Tokyo. You can find his pieces at Bergdorf Goodman or Barney’s.
