Bill Blass and Armani Exchange - In Various Sizes
It is difficult today with statuesque models lanking over every runway and jean ad to get a grip on what to wear if you are of average height or shorter. The thing is, the shorter woman actually has an easier time fitting into runway trends than a tall woman. Today, a girl is considered “tall” if she towers over 5’9”, and in the modeling industry, particularly high fashion, a woman of 5’11” is frequently looked down on. Women of that height are not the norm, and there is no reason you should be trying to match your look accordingly. In fact, it will be easier for the smaller woman to find pieces that she can wear. If you do fall on the petite size, you have the luxury of being known as the “cute” friend, but you can still elongate your look and match your style with the runway pieces. You want to first look for a wider legged jean with a higher waist. You are gong to see a lot of high waists with Bill Blass and Armani Exchange this year. This makes your leg look longer when your pants skim floors. Pair skinny bottoms with cropped jackets, higher waists with your tops tucked in always give a longer waist to floor length look. Right now, you can find some great pieces in Chloe’s or Grey Ant lines.
If you are a dress or skirt girl, do not choose hemlines lower than the knee. Even with heels, petite frames are simply not flattered with longer hemlines. For shorter hemlines look at Juicy Couture’s mini pencils. Toss anything in your wardrobe that has an empire waist, it shortens your torso. Fitted is always much better for the petite girl as it is the key to accentuating and elongating your shape. That with the added benefit that fitted is a hot look right now. Anyone with a Y chromosome can tell you that.
I hope you enjoy the shows and the already-there summer!
